Dr. George Stonecypher, originally from Oregon, taught math and sciences at Guam Mission Academy before completing his Doctor of Optometry studies at Pacific University in 1980. After moving to Calgary, he worked at the Gimbel Eye Centre and then set up his own private practice from 1981-2000.

Dr. Stonecypher retired in 2000, but missed his patients too much and returned to practice part-time at eyedesigns in 2002.

The rest of his retired time is spent with his wife Jean and his children Alison, Linnea and Morse. Dr. Stonecypher is also actively involved in his church, specifically in divorce-care ministry, enjoys photography and loves to travel.
